Mac Ignorance

Comments from the recent article — 42 Reasons Normal People Can Switch to Macs:

Most FLASH DRIVES, dont work on macs,

Really? I’ve never run across one that didn’t. SanDisk, Lexar, even no-name bargain-bin flash drives work on the Mac. Maybe you just didn’t notice that it showed up on your Desktop, because you were expecting 20 yellow bubbles to pop up in the lower right corner, slowly narrowing down what the device is.

WHO WANTS TO SPEND MONEY ON MAKING SOFTWARE MAC COMPATABLE when only a possible 2% market share will be looking at it??

Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Roxio, Macromedia, Mozilla, not to mention the many wonderful shareware developers out there.

1. The ad where it talks about the security prompt in Vista to control administrator actions…. MAC DOES THE EXACT SAME DAMN THING!!! Try to install something, it goes a step further and asks for your password.

Because maybe that something you are trying to install is malware that you didn’t request. And, from what you’re saying, I take it that Windows doesn’t require you to type a password to install software. I hope hackers don’t take advantage of that to infest spyware and viruses into Windows machines. Oops, too late!

2. The Webcam commercial where he tapes it to the PC’s head, GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK THE CHEAPEST ISIGHT ON EBAY IS 250$!!! anybody that doesnt want that and didnt get a mac with it built in is going to have to buy the same damn webcam that they taped on that guys head.

Apple doesn’t manufacture or sell standalone iSight units anymore (low supply = high demand = rising prices.) They build cameras right into the screens of new Macs. That was the point of the commercial. Of course, if you don’t have a camera, you will have to acquire one, and it will most likely be an external camera that you will have to mount somewhere. As amazing as Macs are, they can’t grow camera-equipped appendages on command.

3. The vista upgrade commercial…. come on… The update systems for the 2 operating systems are completely diffirent, its been almost 6 years since XP, Its a NEW PRODUCT, not a slight improvement.

Mac OS X, in relation to Mac OS 9, is a completely new product (more so than Vista is in relation to XP.) Vista is not new. It’s still Windows. It has the same registry core, the same command-line, and still is DLL hell. In the time it took Microsoft to develop Vista, Apple has migrated its users from Mac OS 9 to the very new Mac OS X, released multiple major upgrades to Mac OS X, and migrated its software and users from PowerPC to Intel architecture.

But Just take a look at this list of things that Mac doesnt have yet[...]

media control keys (track forward back etc)

Let’s take that concept a step further. How about a set of media control keys separate from your machine that would let you wirelessly control your media. Maybe they should call it the Apple Remote.

A market share of 98%

Did you not just discuss the disadvantages of having 98% market share? Remember all that crap about “Windows only has viruses because of it’s market share?”

Can we play that back?

IF MAC WERE TO BE AS POPULAR AS WINDOWS IT WOULD SUFFER THE SAME RIDICULUS PROBLEMS THAT WINDOWS DOES.

Yep. That’s the one. So, in your eyes, suffering from all of those ridiculous problems is a feature that the Mac is lacking? I’d take the machine that works the way I want 98% of the time over the machine that 98% of people are using.
