Panic Coda: My Two Cents…
Wednesday, April 25th, 2007
Panic Software’s Coda is undoubtedly the most beautiful piece of software that I’ve ever seen in my life. I just wish I had a reason to use it. When I first read about Coda, I was expecting it to be visual WYSIWYG HTML editor. Wonderful! I never really liked Dreamweaver all that much anyway. But I opened up Coda and was surprised. Although the name now made much more sense, the app itself seemed less exciting, but I got over it. So I will still have to do the majority of my editing in Dreamweaver, OK… no big deal. Coda will handle everything else, right? Not really, Coda doesn’t support FTP syncing, so I still have to launch Transmit after making changes with Dreamweaver to upload the changed files. The only other function of Coda worthwhile to me is the CSS Editor. But I already have CSSEdit in my arsenal. Even if I purchased Coda just for its CSS Editor, I still have the same number of programs to switch between when working on my websites.
Anyway, long story short: WYSIWYG HTML, and FTP sync. If Panic were to add these features to Coda, I guarantee that swarms of Mac users will be replacing a few apps in their Dock with Coda.
