SuperSleight - Alpha Transparency in IE6

Statistics show that lots of people, for some strange reason, still use Internet Explorer 6. So, developers are forced to invent workarounds for their sites to display correctly in the ancient, standards-ignorant browser. SuperSleight is a new solution for displaying PNGs with alpha transparency in IE6. Amazingly, it is a single javascript that takes care of both inline and background images. Web designers, try to contain your excitement.

Desktop Cigarette

Desktop Cigarette is the acme of useless junk. Its [sic] an animated ashtray and cigarette for your dock [sic].

Basically, it’s downloadable cancer for your Mac.

Apple Uncripples iPod Touch’s Calendar

Apple recently released a software update for iPod Touch owners, which fixes the “bug” that disallowed the ability to add calendar events. (Whereby “bug,” I mean “bad decision on Apple’s part.”)

AppleInsider:

One of the only visible features delivered by the update appears to be the ability to add and edit calendar events through the Touch’s calendar application.

Qwest: “Macs are Practically Obsolete”

Lindsey Case, Mac user and former Qwest customer:

[The Qwest employee] told me that hardly anyone uses macs [sic] and Qwest should not have to train its employees in a practically obsolete system.

This stupidity seems to be common among all customer service representatives. As soon as you mention the fact that you’re using a Mac, the conversation ends with, “Oh, we don’t support Macs. You’ll need to call Apple.” Sometimes it’s better to pretend you’re using Windows, just to get the answer you need out of them.

Don’t Buy RAM from Apple

Mike Davidson:

To max out my MacBook’s RAM, Apple charges me $850, while if I go through my trusty RAM comparison shopping site DealRam, I am pointed to NewEgg, which ships me the same amount of RAM for $120.

Luckily, Apple makes the RAM slots easy to get to on their computers, so ordering RAM elsewhere and installing it yourself is the obvious choice here. I always get my RAM from Other World Computing. I just installed a chip I ordered from OWC yesterday, as a matter of fact.

Apple To Release iTunes 7.5 Next Week

AppleInsider:

Due for release as iTunes 7.5, the software update will offer increased stability and better management of duplicate song and video entries.

No doubt this release will remove the Tiger-style traffic lights, and enable the white background window behavior for Leopard users.
